The NM leadership team completed their first meeting with the newly nominated Cabinet
Secretary of DVS Brig Gen (Ret) Judy Griego. She’s a 30-year veteran (10 years prior enlisted) of the New Mexico Air National Guard and the first female general for New Mexico National Guard. Brig Gen (Ret) Griego follows BG (Ret) Jack Fox as the cabinet secretary who worked his two terms building and establishing great relationships between DVS and the DMA (Department of Military Affairs). We’ve built a great reputation within the Governor’s office and this certainly holds true as the new administration takes shape over the next few weeks.

Nominated Secretary Judy Griego has a long record of amazing service to our state, our Veterans, our community, and most importantly our soldiers and airmen and their families. Sec. Griego assisted the new Governor as the transition team lead overseeing: DMA (Department of Military Affairs), DOC (Department of Corrections), DPS (Department of Public Safety), DHS (Department of Homeland Security), and DVS. We will help her succeed in her newly appointed position.

Sec. Griego released the new Governor’s prioritized listing of “go-do’s” for Department of Veteran Services. Each and every one of the Governor’s priorities as they intimately affect the New Mexico National Guard.

#1. Establishing Personal Income Tax Exemption for retired military service pay.
#2. Expanding job security for veterans and their families.
#3. Encouraging and supporting Veteran Owned Businesses.
#4. Working with veterans and their families helping them obtain their entitled benefits.
#5. Advocate and support veterans and their families to have better access to health care.
#6. Eliminate homelessness in our veteran population.
#7. Support women’s veteran programs.
#8. Establish veteran cemeteries in Taos and Bernalillo communities.

Please share this information, combine efforts, and stay engaged with our professional MSO’s/VSO’s (military service organizations/veteran service organizations) in order to accomplish these goals. The only way we can meet our goals is as a team!
